About FennekArt

Know what this is

FennekArt is a one-person operation which is used as a means to share handcrafted art with the world. Handcrafted art hereby means things that are made of clay. I mostly make mugs and bowls and other things made of clay. I am not a professional pottery artist and do this because I love to be creative.

Since I´ve only taken up pottery recently, I am still learning and have not yet reached, and hopefully never will reach, the end of my potential.

What I offer

HANDCRAFTED ART

On everything I create I spend a lot of time and effort. So it takes a while to get finished. This is the reason why my shop is open only when I have finished a batch of pottery items. I enjoy pottery so much, because it offers me a chance to be creative. Sometimes people want a specific thing and whenever it is something that I can and want to do, I offer limited commission spots.

Interested in a reminder, that tells you when you can buy things or get a commission spot?

How does this ~pottery~ work?

Here is a short and simplified overview of the steps it takes me to craft items made of clay:

First round

- preparing an wedging the clay - molding/sculpting (with or without a pottery wheel) - drying - trimming - making/attaching handles - drying again - engraving, decorating, making and attaching 3D applications, etc. - drying again - burnishing - letting clay dry completely (a couple of days) - firing (about 14h in the kiln) - letting the kiln cool down (about 12 h)

Second round

- mixing/preparing glazes - glazing carvings and wiping excesse paint off - glazing - drying - glazing again - drying (and so forth; about 3 to 7 layers per piece) - finishing every piece (wiping off excess paint and similar) - firing again (between 1000 and 1280 degrees celcius) - letting kiln cool down (another 18 hours)

Unloading the kiln happens after around a month of constant care. Finally it´s time to marvel at the hopefully wonderful results.
